While this is understandably a source of confusion for researchers, our Des Moines University was actually never connected with Des Moines College.

Des Moines College opened in 1865, and eventually merged with Central College and Highland Park College to form a new institution called Des Moines University. That Des Moines University closed its doors in 1929. (Apparently, the closing was quite eventful—there were reportedly riots on campus!) Our DMU has been known by a variety of names but in 1999 changed its name to Des Moines University, long after Des Moines College/ the other Des Moines University closed down.

  1. Records from DMC were carted off to Sioux Falls College (now Sioux Falls University). I would contact the school archives. Orange & Black is the name of their annual. My blog on DMC, HPC & DMU: www.collegeonthenorthside.wordpress.com
